This workshop is for the person who would like to learn more about meditation, or an experienced meditator who has not experience the three types of meditation listed below.

In this workshop we will have a brief discussion about meditation traditions around the world and the benefits of developing a practice of meditation. This is the science of meditation, none of the meditations we will learn are based in religion.

The Art of Meditation, Mindfulness and Breathwork

Suitable for beginners and advanced students alike, this workshop is sure to provide instruction for first timers, added insights for the experienced and tools to start or enhance your current practice.

From ancient traditions to modern times, enclosed within all practices of Meditation, Mindfulness and Breathwork there are core teachings that even if the names of them have changed from time to time, the truth of them has not. These truths thread throughout the ages and are the secrets to personal transformation within the context of this practice and artform.

Relieving stress and anxiety, creating mental clarity and purpose, healing of physical and emotional wounds, building physical longevity and vitality are the benefits of these practices.

With the advent of new brain scanning technology and western medicine turning its attention toward the study of holistic medicine and traditional wellness, modern science seems to be proving every day the truth of what has been taught in meditative and breathwork traditions for thousands of years.

Beyond Asana, Yoga as a lifestyle

As much as we all love to practice yoga, remember that your yoga practice is supposed to help you love everything you do outside of your practice even more. This workshop is for the practitioner who wants to learn more about not only how to make what they do on the mat, have a greater impact on their lives, but also to learn many of the lifestyle and health and wellness aspects of yoga.

Each of the below areas at other times are offered as full workshop. During this workshop, after we open with a brief meditation, we will discuss each of the below aspects, their benefits and next steps if you want to go deeper in any, or all of these areas of practice.

This workshop is all discussion, sharing information if participants want to, and Q&A. Everything will be based in the science of yoga and some anecdotal yoga theory.

(+) Living an energetic life, accessing your intuitive nature and letting it be your guide.
We will break down what this means, how to use your yoga practice to enhance your intuition and energy and provide some examples of how this works in a practitioner’s life.

Detoxing  the body, is a popular buzz phrase today. However, yoga has had practices to do this for hundreds if not thousands of years. We will discuss what they are, and what makes sense in this day and age, and what does not.
(+) The Yoga of healthy eating. Food choices that improve mental and physical health and how to make those changes almost effortlessly.
Wouldn’t it be better if you wanted to eat only healthy food, and unhealthy food turned you off? There is a simple way to do that, which we will discuss. We will also share many very easy and cost-effective ways to purchase more healthy food.

Breathwork – the “Timeless Breath”

This breath at its’ most basic level, is a strong ally to your asana during your yoga practice. However, when you begin to explore all the facets of the Timeless Breath, it can be a powerful meditation and breathwork practice that builds energy and vitality, produces a sense of calm, and ends negative stress and anxiety.
This workshop focuses on the full expression of the breathwork done during Matthew’s All Levels Yoga Routine. We will explore methods applied when using this breath in more detail and deepen your understanding of the nuances and how they positively impact your body, mind, emotions and overall well being.
In addition to the technical aspects of how to physical complete the Timeless Breath, we will also learn cover the spinal breathing and a few other elements of the breathwork done during this yoga practice.

Asana & Rhythmic Breathing

Supporting your asana with rhythmic breathing in timing with movement and stillness.
Breathwork is a general term used to describe a wide range of exercises, both meditative and physical. In yoga, we typically call breathwork “pranayama”. Which means to use or breath in such a way it extends your life. However breathwork does much more than extend your life, it also improves your everyday life with a increased vitality, health and sense of wellbeing.
In this workshop we will talk specifically discuss and practice how breath combined with movement from asana to asana, and the stillness between each asana, supports your practice both physically, mentally and emotionally.
Breath is deeply connected to our physical health, levels of stress and emotional health.
Covered in this workshop:
(+) A quick review of the “Timeless Breath”, and all its benefits.
(+) When breath is part of movement, and when it is part of stillness.
(+) Your awareness and intention both in movement and stillness.
(+) What happens to the physically body during breathing, or when you hold your breath.

Bandha (Body Locks) A Secret to Youth & Vitality!

Bandhas enliven and wake up the nervous system and activate glands. They promote youth and connect the energetic systems with the body. They uplift and strengthen the bones, connective tissues and surrounding joints when practiced with asana.  The practice of bandhas increases flow of fresh blood flushing away old, dead cells.   Organs are strengthened and rejuvenated, and circulation is improved.  Bandhas are also beneficial for the brain centers and help to strengthen the pelvic floor which helps to prevent many problems and improve function.  Bandhas also help to preventing injuries in and out of your yoga practice.  In yoga terms, bandhas also help to awaken the energy centers / chakras and purify the nervous system.  The practice of bandhas alleviates stress, reduce mind chatter and mental restlessness.
Adding Bandhas to your practice help develop an intimate awareness of and connection to breath and the natural movements of energy (Prana, Chi, Ki, Natural Electric/Magnetism). Bandhas help to preventing injuries.

Mudras, Attraction, Attention, Intention and The Energetic Connection

Mudra means “seal,” “gesture,” or “mark.” Yoga mudras are symbolic gestures often practiced with the hands and fingers. Because they are a physical representation of what you are trying to influence mentally and emotionally, they will facilitate the flow of energy in the subtle body, which impacts the outer physical body. Mudras like Bandha’s and Meditation will enhance one’s journey within.
Wrapped inside the mystery of mudra, lies the fundamental principle that humans use to make symbols a powerful tool.  It’s this principle that is the secret to creating the motivation within ourselves to effect change in our lives, and create the future we want.  Once this principle is revealed, you can use it alone, with a traditional mudra or with symbol of your own making.
This introductory workshop will provide you with yet another tool to use toward your personal transformation.

Finding and Strengthening the Energetic Body

Getting in touch and in tune with your own body is an integral part of wellness. In many ancient disciplines, especially yoga, you will hear such words as Prana, Pranayama, Chakra’s and Energy Centers. In other parts of Asia you may also hear the words Chi or Ki, all to give a name to what we in the west simply call “Energy”.
But is this Myth or Magic? Science or Religion?
Throughout the millennia all kinds of associations have been assigned to the presence, cultivation and benefits of a person building their personal energy. Often these associations fitted the time period and culture of the persons involved due to the lack of any tools to objectively and scientifically define just what is going on. Teachers of the time created language that their students could relate to, and in a way that would be easier to understand. Since it can be difficult to explain “personal experiences” with words, you can expect terminology to continue to evolve.
Thankfully today, we have tools that give us the ability to explain more clearly what is going on physically, mentally and emotionally when we learn to sense and cultivate these subtle energies within the body.
However, even though we can now measure scientifically what is going on in the body as we learn to sense and grow our energetic bodies, (which also builds the physical body), the good we feel, and the positive impact it has on our overall well-being, are still subjective and proof positive is still often antidotal.
During this workshop we cover:

Meditation:  Stopping The World!

* Open to all levels but be aware this is an intense meditative experience.
* You do not need to be a practitioner at our studio to attend.

Throughout the ages across all ancient disciplines around the world, there have been methods of meditation practiced by the most dedicated of students.  Stopping the World is one of those practices.  This meditative practice helps you to slow your own mind, and body down to the point where your perception changes and the world seems to STOP.
What happens when you stop the world?  The language used by practitioners to explain this experience varies from getting the sense they step out of time to seeing the crack between worlds.   This meditative practice builds fertile ground for all types of flashes of insight and peak experiences.  Although some of the language surrounding this meditative practice makes it sound quite mystical, it’s very easy to learn and is a very practical tool for those who want to advance their knowledge and have new experiences in this area.
During this workshop we will talk about what has changed for contemporary meditators from the ancients, and how those changes has impacted our experiences.  For example, some forms of meditation, like this one, were originally meant to be practiced on high places or in caves or after extraordinary physical exertion.

Kundalini Yoga Comes from The Warrior Class of Yogi’s!   Many do not know that martial arts came from India then migrated to china and the rest of the world.  You will quickly notice the warriors spirit in this yoga practice as it is fast paced with postures created to build energy and strong physical bodies fast.  Come prepared to challenge your body and breathwork as you learn a short set of the kundalini asanas that help to define and separate it most from other types of yoga.

This workshop will be a mixture and introduction into some of the other workshops. We will break this workshop into four groups. Practitioners do not have to stay for the complete workshop.   (For more detailed explanations of each of the four areas covered in this workshops, please scroll on this page and see the full workshop descriptions)
During this workshop we cover:

(+) Discussion: We will talk about the four pillars of a good yoga practice. How to know what to focus on to best improve your own practice, proper pre class yoga prep., and the three things that modern science has determined indicate long life.
(+) Manual Adjustments: We will look at some of the key and very important aspects of alinement in your asana and take a kinesthetic approach using touch to guide you into proper posture and alinement.
(+) Timeless Breath: This is an introductory into the full Timeless Breath Workshop. Learning the Timeless Breath will deepen your understanding of and enhance your breathing during your regular practice and help to open the energy centers (chakras). The Timeless Breath also helps you go into deeper states of meditation and presence quickly.
(+) Bandha: This is an introductory into the full Bandha workshop. Here we will learn two Bandha’s you can integrate into your practice.
